We are joined by AnhPhu Nguyen, created of I-Xray. Along with his classmate, Caine Ardayfio, at Harvard University he has hooked Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses up to a facial recognition system that instantly identifies strangers in public, finds their personal information and can be used to approach them and gain their trust. They call it I-XRAY and have demonstrated its power to get phone numbers, addresses and even social security numbers in live tests. The media is blowing this up as a dystopian tool, but with the right data protection, this tool could make it easier for people to spot commonalities and make meeting strangers less awkward.
